In what ways are they limited. What is their world like in terms of the times and values which are at the foundation of their lives. How did the write convey these to us.
The General Vision and Viewpoint of the text. How do you feel about the world of the story. Is life good or bad. What kind of world is it? Is it harsh and unforgiving or can you see hope? Do the characters lives progress or are they doomed? Is there decency in evidence. Do the characters overcome the obstacles in their way despite suffering. Are we cheering them on?
Literary Genre: How does the writer choose to tell this story. Is it a play, a film, a novel or other written text. Why did they choose this particular form. What style is the story written in. Does it fall into a particular style such as horror, science fictions, historical novel or play. Think about the theme of the piece- does the genre suit the story? A film is a visual medium, a play focuses on the dramatic, on change of scene and character. Look at the sets and costumes.
